Appointment prep

Doctor discussion guide

Bring this to your appointment. Ask what you need to ask, and write the answers down — you'll forget half of it on the drive home otherwise.

Bring this list with you. Working through it out loud is usually faster than remembering it later.

1. Understanding Velnoryx

  • What exactly does Velnoryx do during a severe allergic reaction, and how fast does it work?
  • How do I tell the difference between a milder reaction and anaphylaxis?
  • Which of my allergies puts me at risk for a reaction this severe?

2. Using it in an emergency

  • Can you walk me through using the device, and can I practice the motion with you today?
  • How do I know when a second dose is needed, and how long do I wait?
  • If I'm not certain it's anaphylaxis, should I use it anyway?
  • What happens right after I use it, and who needs to be called?

3. Side effects and what to expect after a dose

  • What should I expect to feel after a dose — racing heart, shakiness, headache?
  • Which symptoms after a dose should I make sure to tell the paramedics about?
  • Do my other health conditions or medications change how epinephrine affects me?

4. Interactions and precautions

  • Do any of my current medications, supplements, or herbal products interact with epinephrine?
  • Do I have any nasal conditions that could affect how the spray works?
  • Is there anything in my medical history you need on file before I start carrying it?

5. Carrying it day to day

  • How many devices should I keep on hand — home, school or work, bag, car?
  • Who else should be trained to use it for me, and can you help me train them?
  • Do I need an allergy action plan on file at school or with my employer?

6. Storage, travel, and replacement

  • How should I store it at home, and what temperatures will ruin it?
  • What are the rules for flying with it, or taking it somewhere hot?
  • How do I get a replacement after I use one, or after it expires?

7. Additional questions

  • What are my options if Velnoryx isn't right for me, or if I can't tolerate it?
  • Should I be seeing an allergist, and would allergy testing change anything?
  • How often should we review my allergy action plan together?

Notes for the appointment

  • Tell your doctor your full medical history, including every allergy and any past bad reaction to a medication.
  • Bring a list of every medication and supplement you take.
  • Write down any reactions you've had since your last visit — what triggered them, what you felt, and what you did.

If you have side effects that bother you, or any question about when to use Velnoryx, contact your healthcare provider.

Important Safety Information

What should I know about Velnoryx™?

Velnoryx™ contains epinephrine, a medication used to treat life-threatening allergic emergencies (anaphylaxis). Anaphylaxis can occur within minutes and may result from insect stings, allergy shots, certain foods, medications, exercise, or unknown triggers.

Always carry two Velnoryx™ nasal sprays with you since anaphylaxis can be unpredictable, and a second dose may be necessary if symptoms persist or return. Each Velnoryx™ contains a single dose of epinephrine and is designed for intranasal use only.

Use Velnoryx™ immediately at the first sign of an allergic reaction. If symptoms persist or worsen after the initial dose, administer a second dose using a new Velnoryx™ spray in the same nostril, waiting at least 10 minutes between doses. After using Velnoryx™, seek emergency medical attention for further care.

Before using Velnoryx™, inform your healthcare provider if:

  • You have nasal conditions that may affect its use.
  • You have any underlying medical conditions, especially heart problems, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, kidney problems, or low potassium levels in your blood.
  • You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • You take other medications, such as nasal sprays, diuretics, antidepressants, or medicines for heart disease, allergies, or labor. Velnoryx™ may interact with other medications, potentially causing side effects or altering how the medicines work.

What are the potential side effects of Velnoryx™?

Velnoryx™ may cause serious side effects. If you have certain medical conditions or take specific medications, you could experience increased or prolonged side effects.

Common side effects include nasal discomfort, headache, throat irritation, chest or nasal congestion, feelings of nervousness or excitement, nosebleeds, nasal pain, sneezing, runny or dry nose, dry throat, tingling sensations (including in the nose), fatigue, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting.

If you experience side effects that are bothersome or do not resolve, inform your healthcare provider.

This is not a comprehensive list of all possible side effects. For medical advice about side effects, reach out to your healthcare provider. To report side effects, contact NeurovaRx Pharmaceuticals Operations, Inc.
